The meaning of Mother's Day

Uncategorized May 12, 2019

Here in Australia, today, Sunday 12th May we celebrate "Mother's Day".

This may be your first Mother's day, or it may be your 11th - or it even may be a day that you're looking forward to celebrating the first time next year.

Wherever you are in your journey of Motherhood - Happy happy Mother's Day. I celebrate you.

According to Wikipedia - Mother's Day is a celebration honouring the mother of the family, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society.

These "celebration" days may not be something you believe in (too commercial) or they may be something you love and hold sacred.

I see it like this, every day is an opportunity to celebrate. Every day is an opportunity to acknowledge where we are, where we have been, and where we are going. If we take away the "commercial" aspect of Mother's Day, its true essence can be celebrated.

When this day comes around, we think of our own Mother's.

Some of us grew up with Mother's that adored us, that gave us a model of Love that was inspiring and gracious.

Some of us grew up with Mother's that had pain in their hearts that could never heal - when we needed them the most, they were absent.

Some of us grew up with inheriting the burden our Mother's carried. We instead had to Mother our own Mother - and be the grown-up or the role-model.

Some of us grew up without a Mother. Maybe she passed away or circumstances were unfortunate - and she had to leave.

What we can't deny is the influence of a Mother figure on our life.

Our mothers significantly impact our self-worth, our experience of life, our relationships, and how we relate to ourselves and the world around us.

If you are reading this, if you are a part of this community - what I know is that you're a Mother committed to honouring the world of Motherhood.

If you grew up with an inspiring model of Motherhood - I am grateful for you passing and expanding on that love for the next generation.

If you grew up without having the love of a Mother that you really needed - I acknowledge you for choosing to turn to Love over Fear. You're choosing "Doing Better" over "Doing Bitter"; and doing the work to expand your heart. It could have so easily gone down the path of Bitter.

Thank-you for you. I celebrate you.

I celebrate the times that you learn to overcome yourself. To dig deep when you feel like you have nothing left to give. This is power.

I celebrate the moments that you lean to compassion and forgive yourself - as this is often an inside job of worthiness. This is learning to Love yourself.

I celebrate the moments that you turned to courage and got over your self-concern - for you knew that the choices you make are either a demonstration for possibility or a demonstration of being a victim. You wanted to do better so your child truly knows that they are infinite potential. This is choosing to live life boldly over settling.

I celebrate the times that you had a dark night of the soul - where you met the depths of despair and used it as fuel. Fuel to Love. Fuel to do better. Fuel to meet Fear with Love. This is expansion and vision.

I celebrate the days, the months, the years that you've invested into learning so you know better, and can do better. To challenge and let go of the beliefs and values you have inherited that no longer serve you. This is willpower. Challenging our own internal model of reality so we can expand on what is possible.

I celebrate your mistakes. I celebrate your failures. I celebrate your heartache. For I know, on the other side is a better version of you. Setbacks provide a pathway for comebacks.

I am grateful to be alive and be on this journey of Motherhood with you.

It is an incredible time to be alive - where we can create change, where Motherhood can be a time of transformation. We are becoming aware that pain runs through families until someone is ready to feel it - and this is the transformation.

The wounds stop here. The inherited unhealthy patterns stop here.

There is so much to celebrate in that knowingness. When the family heals - that foundation of love, safety and security is the fertile ground in which our children grow up in.

I want you to know, I see you, I hear you, and I understand you. I may not have had the heartache, the trials, the tribulations - and I empathise with what it takes for growth.

I want you to know you are not alone, and we are in this together.

You are celebrated for your journey. From where you have come from, to where you are - and to what is possible for you.

Motherhood is as much about the relationship between our child as it is about the relationship of healing within ourselves. Letting go of the past so we can truly create our future.

So beautiful soul - Happy Mother's Day. I celebrate the world of Motherhood that lives in you, lives through you, and the world of Motherhood that you're imprinting in our world.
